Our Katahdin & Royal White hair sheep flock

Our Katahdin & Royal White hair sheep flock

100% Grass Fed Lamb

We raise Katahdin, Dorper and Royal White hair sheep.  These breeds of sheep are not bred for their wool but for for their delicious meat.

Why Hair Sheep?

Born on our farm in March 2017

Hair sheep do not produce as much lanolin as wool sheep.  The lanolin in the wool of a wool sheep is what gives the lamb a “gamey” (muttony) flavor that is not appealing to most people.  Because hair sheep have very little lanolin, they produce an excellent quality meat, which is mild in flavor.  Hair sheep are also closer to wild sheep, so they are a hardier sheep that stay healthier.  Hair sheep have wool in the winter and shed the wool in the spring, so they do not require a stressful shearing.

Our sheep are 100% grass fed and finished.  They eat no GMO feeds, receive no hormones or dewormers (not even organic dewormers!).  We care for our animals like family to make sure they are healthy and comfortable.  Their tails are not docked, and they are not forced to wean their young early.  Our sheep are rotationally grazed through a diverse irrigated pasture.  When needed, our flock also eats natural alfalfa and grass hay grown by Cloud 9 Farms.  We use no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides of any kind on our fields.
